There are many ways to shed off pounds to look and feel great. But sometimes, weight loss can become a struggle because it involves persistence and hard work. It’s no wonder most people quit.
In the past fifteen years, I’ve tried and tested different methods to lose weight. From yo-yo dieting and cutting out all fats to running mile after mile every week.
I remember trying the latest fad diet and supplement, only to find that it was too difficult. I would give up for another few weeks and then start another diet.
But a few years back, I tried one little weight loss hack that surprised me massively. It was actually the thing that inspired me toeat healthier and even get fitter.
I felt so great after a few weeks that it changed my thinking for the better. If you think about it, that’s when real weight loss happens.

How I Lost 5 Pounds in 2 Weeks Using One Weight Loss Hack
So, here is what I did. I replaced my heaviest meal of the day with a dish packed full of low-carb vegetables.
A majority of this meal would be spinach and the rest would typically include tomatoes (yea I know it’s a fruit), cucumber and bell pepper.
I ate this alternative meal for lunch since I was replacing my heaviest meal and I used to eat a big meal at midday.
In terms of preparation, I didn’t do anything special. I just put the veggies together and drizzled with olive oil, salt and pepper. It was convenient to take to work for lunch as well.
Though I had these veggies alone most of the time, sometimes, I did include tuna or grilled chicken on the side (but only a small portion).
Now, before I ever tried this eating plan, I barely ever used to eat veggies (naughty, I know). But afterwards, like I said before, I became a convert.
What’s so special about this method?
I believe there are two reasons why this eating plan worked to help me lose weight. The first and most obvious reason is that I was eating low-carb vegetables, pure and simple.
And secondly, I believe it’s because the kinds of vegetables I consumed have a powerful fat-burning or anti-inflammatory component.
For example, research shows that tomatoes aide in weight lossdue to their anti-inflammatory properties.
Bell peppers contain capsaicin which helps boost metabolism. Broccoli is very filling due to its fibre content and it’s rich in phytonutrients. Great reasons to get started, right?
Here are some tips to keep in mind:
- Replace lunch or dinner (whichever is your heaviest meal) with the alternative dish.
- Though I had my veggies raw, there is nothing wrong with cooking them with a bit of olive oil and even spices. As long as you keep it clean and simple.
- Try not to use any creamy salad dressings. Instead, go for high-quality extra virgin olive oil and if desired, a squeeze of lemon juice.
- Eat spinach daily if you are not allergic to it (hating spinach does not count as an allergy).
- Try not to overcompensate in other meals by eating more than you normally would as that would obviously defeat the purpose.
- Be sure to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and to keep fuller for longer.
