Ever wondered how people make money on Pinterest? Perhaps, you have never thought about this concept of making money online and how it all works?
Or maybe, you stumbled on this article while scrolling through your Pinterest feed and you skeptically clicked on it to see what this is all about.
It doesn’t matter how you came across it. Whether you were searching on how to make money or side hustle ideas, or you accidentally found this blog post, I’m sure you will be pleasantly surprised when you find out the numerous ways you can make money on Pinterest.
What is Pinterest?
First things first, what is Pinterest? The average person would say it’s social media. But this is where Pinterest is actually different from social media sites like Facebook and Instagram.
Pinterest is actually a visual search engine. That’s right. It’s very similar to search engines such as Google. Pinterest users can type keywords relating to a question they need answers for or keywords relating to ideas on things like fashion, recipes and more.
The great thing about Pinterest being a visual search engine is that you have the opportunity to use the platform in many different ways to promote products, services, or to advertise.
Now that we have cleared up any confusion about the purpose and definition of Pinterest, let’s get into the details of how Pinterest can help YOU make money in no time.
In this article, I will give you as much information as possible so it’s worth saving this or pinning it for later. Nothing makes me happier than helping others make money and sharing my experience of how I learned to make money online.
By the end of this article, my hope is that you will have learned all the possible ways of making money on Pinterest and know the exact steps you need to take to make it happen for you.
How much money can I make on Pinterest?
I thought you would never ask.
Well, due to the many factors that influence making money on Pinterest, it’s hard to give you a specific number. However, it can range from $5 to $500 per day. Why such a huge range and variation in the amount? Because, it depends on how much time you have to invest in it, and the type of side hustle you choose to do on Pinterest.
Personally, I have made over $4000 per month on Pinterest through blogging. In fact, I know some of my blogging buddies make over $10 000 per month on Pinterest. However, many people make money directly on Pinterest without blogging as well.
Basically, making money online is limitless. The only thing you need is the willingness to put the effort needed to make it work for you.
Do I need any experience to make money on Pinterest?
I don’t believe you need a specific skill or experience to use Pinterest for profit. I know I didn’t have any experience on Pinterest (apart from being a normal Pinterest user) when I first started making money.
I believe you can make money on Pinterest as long as you are willing to learn and try different approaches until you find what works for you.
Now, there are courses (paid and free) that you can take to help you with certain types of jobs. I will mention those a bit later. However, you can play around with Pinterest and learn what you need to learn on your own too.
What kinds of side hustles pay you cash on Pinterest?
This is what you came here for. What can you do on Pinterest to make the big bucks?
Here are the side hustles I love and that are proven to work. First, I will start with the three side hustles I did (and still do) to make over $4000 a month on my other blogs and Pinterest accounts.
Blogging is one of the best and main ways people make money online, on Pinterest and even on social media. Having a blog does give you an advantage because you have somewhere to write and market anything you love.
Blogging is really writing about your passion or something you are good at. You share something with the world and you make money in various ways (to be discussed shortly).
Basically, anyone can start a blog for cheap (and when you first start out, you should never pay more than a few dollars a month to start a blog). Start a blog for cheap by following my step-by-step instructions here.
What can you blog about?
A good way to find your blog niche (topic) is by answering questions such as:
> What kinds of advice do my family and friends come to me for? (For example, you might be the hair guru or the foodie in your family)
> What is something I can’t stop talking or thinking about? (When you are passionate about something, you can’t help but talk about it. If you can’t think of something, ask your friends or family what they think).
> What skills have I learned or what experiences have I had in my life which I would love to share with others? (For example, losing weight, overcoming anxiety, learning the importance of self-care and self-love).
Blogging and Pinterest
So how does Pinterest help you make money blogging?
When you first start a blog without any experience, it is hard to rank on search engines like Google. That takes time. So the best way to bring traffic to your blog and get people to see your content (and make money) is to share it on Pinterest.
This is exactly how I make over $4000 on Pinterest. I don’t have many posts that show up on Google as yet and that’s something I’m working on. But for now, I’m happy that I get free traffic to my site through Pinterest and I can still make money.
You drive traffic (pageviews) to your blog by creating pins and saving them to your Pinterest profile. Once you get traffic to your blog, you can earn money through display ads such as AdSense, Mediavine (this is what I use) or AdThrive.
As a beginner, you can easily get accepted for AdSense which doesn’t require minimum pageviews. So you start earning anytime a reader visits your website and clicks on any of your AdSense ads. Mediavine requires about 30K pageviews a month.
Monumetric tends to be perfect for beginners because it approves sites with only 10 000 pageviews a month (which is very easy to reach when you use Pinterest for traffic).
(Side note: AdSense was my first method of earning money online and I was SO excited to make my first chunk of income online).
Once you get good at getting tons of traffic to your site (this can take anything from a few weeks to months), you can switch to Mediavine or Monumetric. These advertising networks pay 3 to 4 times what AdSense pays.
2) Affiliate Marketing on Pinterest
If you’re anything like I was when I started blogging, the term affiliate marketing must sound complicated and a little scary. But I’m here to tell you, it’s not.
In fact, affiliate marketing is really just referring people to a product or service you love, and if they buy through your link, you earn a small amount of money (commission). The more you do this, the more the cash you earn adds up.
There are two simple ways you can earn money through affiliate marketing. The first is through blogging. You can add links and recommend products (from places like Amazon and ShareASale) in your blog posts.
One of the best resources for affiliate marketing as well as all things blogging is THIS membership by Paul Scrivens.
I have learned 80% of what I know about building a money-making blog from this guy at Dare To Conquer.
The affiliate marketing course (which is one of many courses included in the DTC membership) has opened my eyes to the thinking behind a successful affiliate sale and made it so easy for me to make money online.
The Dare To Conquer membership may seem expensive but it is a cheap investment when you take into consideration just how much you take out of it.
Of course, the amount you make through your blog will not only cover the cost of the membership but you will be making up to 5, 15 or 60 times more per month than what you invest to start with. I think that’s what is amazing about starting a blog and building a business.
Making money on Pinterest without blogging
The other way to make money is by posting products you recommend directly on Pinterest. For example, if you love sharing fashion related pins, you can add links from ShopStyle or similar affiliate programs and earn money.
(Side note: The main thing to remember is that you must check with each affiliate program if they allow posting directly on Pinterest. Most companies allow it). Personally, having a blog to use as a medium for sharing on Pinterest is the better option.
It saves you from worrying about sharing directly on Pinterest. A blog also allows you to share on social media which boosts traffic. Eventually, you can even start optimizing for Google traffic which is extremely profitable.
3) Become a Pinterest Virtual Assistant
Want to know more ways to make money on Pinterest?
You can become a Pinterest virtual assistant (VA). Many bloggers and business owners are interested in hiring virtual assistants to create and grow their Pinterest account.
A Pinterest VA can make anything from $50/hour up to $200 per hour. It all depends on the role you take on and your pricing range for the services you provide.
Here are some of the services you can offer your clients as a Pinterest VA:
- Creating and designing pins for their blog and website posts
- Pinning their content to various boards (including group boards)
- Scheduling Pins to go out using scheduling platforms like Tailwind
- Creating new boards and growing followers
I do all of the above (and more) for all of my websites (I own four websites). And I can honestly say, it’s an easy job to do, even if you have zero experience dealing with a blog. Simply, familiarise yourself with the basics of how Pinterest works.
This allows you to work wherever you can take your laptop (and have Internet access, of course).
4) Sell your own products on Pinterest
And lastly, you can make money on Pinterest by making and selling your own products. This is handy if you are crafty or creative in some way.
Think printables, design, handmade toys and clothing, and any other product you can think of.
Pinterest can be used to help you promote your products if you have an Etsy shop or similar. You can also sell directly on Pinterest without blogging and without owning an online store.
Let’s just say, Pinterest is a truly amazing (and FREE) platform that can make your dreams of making a lot of money online, a reality. I know it has made it happen for me. So, why not you?
Down the track, as your business (blog or otherwise) grows, you can use promoted pins or ads on Pinterest to boost sales and traffic. Your options are limitless.
And that’s a wrap!
